why did Columbus claim the "New World" as British land instead of Italian land? i searched google but i couldn't find it sdawkcab

Actually, I'm doing this in school. Basically, Columbus was trying for a way to get to Asia. Italy already was right next to Asia, and didn't need another way. England,on the other hand, was on the other side of the continent, and hired Columbus to go there. He found America instead of Asia, and claimed it for England. If I heard from the teacher correctly.
