You're kidding, right? She writes her own songs, plays multiple instruments, puts on extremely entertaining shows, and has proven herself as not only a huge pop talents, but also in jazz> She also performed Gimme Shelter with the Rolling Stones extremely well. She's probably the most versatile main pop star we have today. She's certainly up there with the best.

And also I never said my opinion was fact, I simply am not a beyonce fan nor lady gaga fan. And Britney although she was popular and had an impact on the music industry, it wasn't a positive one. She was a pioneer of the "anyone can make a record now due to auto tune" and honestly she made it even more popular and made it even worse. |

This thread is about the best MUSICIANS of this generation. As in plural. As in there can be more than one. And as far as pop stars go, I think Lady Gaga has earned that title as one of, if not the best pop musician of this generation.

You are so incredibly stupid. At least learn about the history behind auto tune and how it works before you try to use it in any of your arguments. You don't get to decide whether or not Britney Spears' impact on the industry was good or bad. Britney Spears was the defining pop star of the 00's. Her name itself was everywhere and she changed the industry. Not in a good way, not in a bad way( that is subjective), it just changed. It was bound to happen, and she was the one to do it. She changed what it meant to be a pop star/teen idol. Everything from Oops...I Did It Again, to her shaving her head and attacking paparazzi with an umbrella, was iconic to 00's pop culture. |

She can't sing to save her life. But with auto tune she sounds good, no effort was put in. A f**king engineer made her sound good. Not her vocal chords. You are right about one thing, she defined the 00's, she defined the make an album using auto tune even though I have no talent. She defined the hot mess celebrity sloot who goes on a down hill spiral until they are to old to be relevant in the go centric, beauty centric, toxic, wasteful, and deplorable system that is the 00's mainstream. This is inaccurate, and based off of your opinion on what 'sounds good'.

No, she defined bubblegum pop. Britney Spears had vocal talent (much of it now has faded, along with her dancing skills *cringe*). She COULD sing. That's why she was able to make songs that still sounded human.

This is all based off of opinion. Your opinion on what music and culture should be. Hate to break it to you, but that's not how the world works. The world isn't going to constantly love rock or metal or jazz or EDM or whatever it is you want it to love. The thing about humankind, is when we have something for a while, we get sick of it and crave something new. That's why classic rock doesn't play on Top 40 radio anymore. That's why grunge isn't dominating our main airwaves. We had that phase, back in the 90's. The 00's were the phase of bubblegum teen idol pop, and whether or not you like it doesn't make it bad music. It served it's purpose. What is "mainstream" is constantly going to change. Deal with it. |

And if what is mainstream is overall mediocrity it isn't a good thing. Auto tune isn't the future, it's just a short cut. You can add techno elements to your song (Look to the Three Days Grace's last two records for this) and have it sound post modern and be popular and have its chart toppers. But your shouldn't use auto tune as a crunch. I'll show you a video you should watch in one second. |
