I don't believe they ruin the plot. The songs contribute to it and they characterize the musical's characters well. The song "shy" from Once Upon A Mattress conveys that though Princess Winifred has an outwardly outgoing persona, she has deeper insecurities that lie within. I can understand how people can have a negative opinion about musicals if they aren't into on-stage singing, but i enjoy them and I don't quite get why one would think the songs damage the plot. Most musicals I can think of would be awfully boring without the song and dance. Maybe plays would be more fitting for you? |
