Well, biologically, because it's a natural thing for a person to be attracted to someone in shape. It means mating with them would produce fit offspring, too, or at least pass on some athletic traits, and it's natural to want to have successful offspring.
Socially? Because it requires talent. More talent than twiddling your thumbs on a NES controller or w/e.

also, as someone who's feared for being a dominating football player bc of how athletic i am naturally and for how long ive lifted weights (3 years), im not really popular per se, my name is well known throughout schools around my area, yeah, everyone on the other football teams know im really good at what i do, but my popularity? it doesn't get me a significant other, free friends, or any perks really

most of the people are rude and causes drama, couples that last a day or two, etc

so really talented art students are popular, me being one of them as i play guitar/piano/bass and stuuufff |
