I listen to it when I'm mad because it helps me release my anger
I know it sounds like some tumblr idiot stuff, but it helps
RIP Mitch Lucker |

"I listen to it when I'm mad because it helps me release my anger"
That makes sense, actually. In retrospect I should've known.
But there must be some people who listen to it for fun, yes? Why do THEY listen to it?

its good when youre working out, or for me, lifting amps and doing push ups because im too poor for a gym membership/weights. but i cant listen to it any other time. |

a couple of songs are okay
the screaming isn't the good part, it's the refrains, a very good example of this is the refrains in Pierce The Veil's King For a Day
the song is terrible but the refrains done by Kellin Quinn are good |

Can be good if the overlying tune is good. But I guess I don't listen much to it myself. |

King for a day if you wanted a listen
skip the screamy parts they suck |
|

"the screaming isn't the good part"
"Can be good if the overlying tune is good."
But then, why listen to screamo at all? Why not just listen to metal or rock or something? I mean, admittedly, I don't listen to much metal OR screamo, but I would think unless you're trying to release energy there isn't much to like or even find likeable about it. |

Idk, it's just music that I enjoy. I also think it's something you slowly grow into. Most people don't just suddenly go from hip-hop to screamo for the heck of it. Plus if done right, it's talent you can respect. I mean, screaming/growling/etc for extended periods of time is tough. Plus you usually have to play quite fast. Some screamo bands are good for venting too.
Plus it can get your blood pumping too.

meh. not my cup of tea, but i can sort of see why people like it now.
to me the lyrics came off as too whiny and the screamo parts take up too much of the song to just ignore, and frankly they make my ears curl back into my head |

wow I respect OP for actually giving it a shot |

"Most people don't just suddenly go from hip-hop to screamo for the heck of it."
I'm not into hip hop though. I suppose I'm into genres even farther from screamo than hip hop, however, so.. yeah
"Plus if done right, it's talent you can respect. I mean, screaming/growling/etc for extended periods of time is tough."
I'm going to give you my honest opinion. I desire very strongly not to be a closed-minded person, and even to me this sounds almost closed-minded, but, I can't respect the screaming. To me, it sounds horribly ugly. |

I don't know myself, I listen to electronica |

It's like overdone punk + emo, but for the scene kids. |
|

There's only one band that I like of which barely qualifies as screamo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnlhufVvF2w&t=37
It's more nu-metal than anything |
|
|
edgy kids w/ female vocal capacity
that's how bad screamo is |
|
|
Plus there are some topics that are best sung about with screams. It's sometimes the only way to get a certain emotion across. Not to mention it's also very raw depending on the topic.
Otep is a good example of this I think, i.e. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OocGSZo_Pzs |

Can't really criticize your opinion. All I'm asking is that you respect the effort it takes to produce sound like this. |

my sister likes screamo |

"respect the effort it takes to produce sound like this."
respect the effort of straining your vocal cords nearly beyond its limit to create an irritating sound that grates the eardrum.
