tl;dr: Floor count reduced for better experience, Items might be kept instead of Col/Skills/Levels, but inventories will be scanned. New place exploit but nothing important was taken. Alright, in the shout I mentioned a flaw with SAO. If you were trapped in an MMO for two years, wouldn't you reach level 100 long before floor 75? Let's look at a roblox game scenario: SwordBurst Online is up to Floor 8 right now, and probably has people in the level range of 50 to 60, probably even higher. I know in the anime there was limited exp/drop/col distribution, but that'd be very tricky to try to replicate on roblox. How this all applies to AO: As I was doing the auto-balance equations I noticed the flaw in SAO, but by the time you reach floor 100, you'd be at level 1000. We're able to make 100 floors, yes, but, items for a thousand levels, no. There's two scenarios: Level Cap or No Level Cap Yes - You'd max out your level at 120 on about floor 30, probably one of your skills half-way, but mobs would either get tougher or stay the same. You couldn't get higher level equipment, and the upgrade feature I'm adding will have a limit. You get bored with the game. I am sad. No - You get past level 120 and realize there's no more items. I am sad. You are sad. Solution: We've counted the number of floors with enough resources to remake 11 floors from the anime 25 floors from SAO Hollow Fragment (Floors 76-100) Total floors - 36 Floor additions past this point will go towards Alfheim regions and dungeons, so we can still resume map updates. The benefits of this: Opens the door to the possibility of towns on every floor, and animated mobs (#animatedskullreaper) More detail and time for each floor. Could always go back and revise floors. The Half-Reset: Can't confirm anything yet, but instead of saving levels, col, and skills, I might be able to preserve your items and convert the old inventory to the new format (and wipe illegal items) Guild and character appearance will remain. Levels/Skills/Col needs to be wiped for the full rebalance. Not because of the sins of a few. Place theft: New place exploit in circulation. We've examined it and it only takes from workspace, no scripts, no terrain. Seeing as our places were worthy of being stolen, and seeing how none of our systems were taken, we will leave the game open for the time being. Floor updates are on hold until further notice. __// Atarru \\__

Correction: SBO has a cap of 46. But it would be higher if there wasn't one. __// Atarru \\__

You do realise, this game doesn't have to be a replicated version of the anime, or the light novels. The option without having a level cap, well there would be way more flaws than having a level cap. Level cap all the way.

Leveling shouldn't be the primary statistic in character advancement anyways. Kirito was ~Level 75 on floor 74 in the anime, so obviously leveling didn't play too big a role.

Idk if this helps or not...but although there was never a definitive level cap in the SAO series, in the game "Sword Art Online: Lost Song" (which the story for was written by Reki Kawahara himself) has a character and skill level cap of 1000, so that could mean that SAO itself also had the same cap. Atarru, are you leaning more on saving items or taking away items?

So I see, but right now in the shops there are level 40 items. Make the level cap level 40 because people's skills are rearing above 20. if you keep level 40 for a few more floors and make the mobs harder it would be a pretty good game.

If the cap was level fourty, everything would be more limited.

Take WoW's "item level" system. While the level cap is only 100, the item level cap is around 700-something. The real thing that matters here is the item level, or strength of the players gear, because it goes a lot more in-depth into how strong the player really is. Also, SAO was originally a single novel written in 30 days or so. A lot was left out, and it (the version seen in the anime) is filled with plot convenience because of it. Craft your own masterpiece; think out the details and don't rush it like Reki did.

How about just increasing the level cap as the game progresses?

To add onto that, the challenge is acquiring the gear, NOT meeting specific requirements to use it.

Be sure to check out the expanded universes of SAO (such as the video games) which had stories/plots written by Reki

You don't have to add a level cap just make it so you have to gain a lot of xp in order to level up. So it would take longer for people to level.
