In order to pass LRDG selection and thus become a member you must pass the following:
Phase 1 Personal agility: The candidate must pass the obstacle course [at LRDG training area] in a time under 60 seconds.
Phase 2 Driving: The candidate must complete the Chevy driving course in a time of 45 seconds. Once passed the candidate must cross the entire minefield and reach the other side, only three attempts are allowed this must be completed in both vehicles.
Phase 3 Observation/Concealment: The candidates at this stage will be sent out in a patrol at night, their aim to observe enemy activity in a certain area, if the candidates are spotted they will fail.
Phase 4 Patrol: The candidates will go on a patrol during the day and must complete a pre designated patrol route, there are potential enemy ambushes that the candidates will have to fight off without any casualties on their part if they come across one.
Phase 5 Survival: The candidates will be dropped in the middle of nowhere, only lightly armed with their side arm and must make their way back to a designated point without being seen by any enemy patrols.
Phase 6 Final Exercise: The candidates must complete a full raid, they will have to run a recon on the enemy positions, plan an attack between themselves and under the cover of darkness attack, destroying all enemy aircraft without one single casualty and they must get back to base without being followed.
Provided for those who show character and leadership skills one NCO will be selected to lead the final exercise, and for any officers who pass they will become the section commanders and training team. |
