"The minimum wage is only for teens!"
Wrong. Far too many full time jobs use minimum wage. Shouldn't a full-time job pay a living wage?
"They'll have to raise prices!"
Yes. By literally nothing. For instance, a Whopper at Burger King will go from costing 3.99, to a staggering... 4.17.
"It will harm the economy!"
Higher wages will mean more money for people to spend, meaning that they'll buy more things, increasing demand and causing businesses to hire more. In the long run, a higher minimum wage will help the whole economy.

because pushing buttons on a cash register and flipping a burger requires minimal effort
you don't see first responders going on and constantly complaining about their wage

Why should we pay an inexperienced worker the same amount an experienced worker makes? Where would the incentive to work harder go when everyone can get paid the same amount doing the easy work? |

The skill of a worker doesn't matter. If they're putting in 40 hours of their life a week in a job, they should be getting paid enough to survive. And that isn't even mentioning the large amount of skilled jobs that still pay minimum wage.

but if they're not making enough to survive, can't they just be put on welfare? |

There's a pretty widespread myth that collecting welfare is a speedy, easy process that you can easily live off of. In reality, the system is broken, collecting welfare is so complicated it might as well be a job in itself, and people are still starving in a country where there's enough food for everyone.

I think raise shouldn't be raised all the time and should be kept at a stable amount.
Also there are people that abuse welfare, another broken system,
Welfare is to keep you alive till you can maintain yourself, however some people refuse to be self-efficient. |

The minimum wage was meant to change with inflation. However, that has not been the case.
And welfare abuse is very rare, mainly because of the aformentioned absurd complexity of the system that basically makes collecting it a job in itself.

currently, federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour
however some states go up to $10 and above
in one 40 hour week with $7.25 and hour you make $290, $400 with a $10 minimum wage
for college students where cashiers and cooks at fast food restaurants as their first job that should be sufficient
and the younger population are usually the ones complaining about minimum wage

The skill level doesn't matter. No one is saying a burger-flipper should make as much as a neurosurgeon. But they SHOULD be able to make enough to live semi-comfortably and not be in horrible debt. that's what the minimum wage is supposed to be. it doesn't matter if you're scrubbing teeth or scrubbing toilets, your wage should never dip below at least that much |

Raising the minimum wage will just increase the push for machine automation in blue collar jobs.
A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. |

@Iron
But what about those who don't fit into that category? There are full time jobs worked by adults who often have to support large families, yet still get paid minimum wage. How do you justify that?

No one should be raising a family on minimum wage. That is their fault, not the government's.

I never really thought about it this way, but raising minimum wage is a good thing. If you compare it to the alternative, which would be putting the people on welfare, it's great! People pay taxes when they actually work, so even if it's a small amount it still helps more than free money. |

If you're doing the exact same thing your experience is irrelevant.
Do you actually think that since people will be able to pay for food clothing and shelter, they'll stop attempting to make more money? Can you be intellectually honest for one second and propose such a ludicrous idea? |
