"who needs health education when you can just swallow the pill and let all of your worries be gone in an instant" pills for mental health are medicine, just as cold medicine treats your colds and anti allergens treat your allergies "so many kids who self-diagnose themselves instead of seeking out doctors for actual answers" awareness that you have a problem begins with self diagnosis, I self diagnosed myself having depression for years and had it confirmed by my doctor just last year

"idunno our entire health class is all mental health" high school health class teaches you nothing about mental health, just very basic facts

“i self diagnosed myself with ptsd because i saw a cat and it was cuter than me so now if i see or hear about cats i get triggered so you need to check ur privelege???” not how it works “i can't take anyone who does that seriously. i just can’t” then youre poorly educated, to be honest

Psychology is mostly bull crap, in the last 20 years the DSM for mental illnesses has went from around 30 mental illnesses to 300 and large corporate companies make huge amounts of money from diagnosing kids, teenagers and adults with fake mental illnesses.

"in the last 20 years the DSM for mental illnesses has went from around 30 mental illnesses to 300" probably because as knowledge about the body and the brain get better you can better classify things in order to treat them better "and large corporate companies make huge amounts of money from diagnosing kids, teenagers and adults with fake mental illnesses" sorry but all doctors legitimately want to help their patients, it's why they become doctors the dsm-V isn't some conspiracy theory manual to make money, it's the most accurate standard on health science

@Sadboys You realise in order for a person to be mentally ill there needs to be a chemical imbalance within there brain, and most of these new "mental illnesses" do not test any chemicals within your brain to see if there is an imbalance.

"You realise in order for a person to be mentally ill there needs to be a chemical imbalance within there brain, and most of these new "mental illnesses" do not test any chemicals within your brain to see if there is an imbalance" Because these "chemicals" can't be measured in every person/arent affordable, so the easiest and best way is to be trained to recognize behaviors associated with these disorders please take intro psych before posting

@TheHighKing You are absolutely correct. The "half-life of knowledge" is the approximate amount of time it takes for half of the information in a certain subject to be disproved or otherwise antiquated. Donald O. Hebb, a notable psychologist, famously estimated the half-life of knowledge in the psychology to be a mere five years. Therefore, a lot of information we have about psychology is completely wrong and will be disproved in five years.

'Depression: You're depressed? TAKE OUR EXPENSIVE PILL AND LEARN THAT IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD, EVERYONE IS SUPPOSE TO BE IDEALISTICALLY HAPPY LIKE ON OUR POSTERS AND ADVERTISING, SMILE ALL THE TIME." you realize that people with severe depression can not physically feel happy

@Sadboys No behaviour or misbehaviour is a mental illness, how a person acts does not define how there mental state is at all.

schools typically don't have dedicated psychiatrists or anything like that so they expect students to rely on guidance counselors or teachers you know except guidance counselors are overworked to hell like damn you hardly even get a look at them unless you've got a real nice one 🌶
