Please respond I need it for my science project. |

Viruses are considered non living for one major reason, they depend on other living organisms to reproduce. Living creatures reproduce with members of the same species, or in some cases reproduce through methods such as budding. (When one organism splits up into two "daughter" organisms) A virus is dependent on injecting their DNA into the cells of a host and relying on that cell to mass produce said virus based on the injected DNA until the point of bursting.

Ummm... They are living beings. They're biological organisms. |

"Ummm... They are living beings. They're biological organisms."
They don't fit the criteria, though.
They don't produce waste.
They don't reproduce in the conventional way.
They don't react to stimuli (usually).
They are dependent on hosts for survival (whereas bacteria and parasites are not completely dependent).

|
|
I know the main reason is that they can not reproduce without another organism being involved
The Wikipedia page on viruses probably has a section on the "Are they living" debate |

@Plane:
I thought they were living, but someone told me they weren't. Its a good thing I didn't trust that furry's trash post, it could've costed me a project grade.
@Iamjonron:
Shame on you. |

"Are Viruses Living?
9 JUNE 2004
Let’s first define life. According to the online Merriam-Webster Dictionary, life is “an organismic state characterized by capacity for metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction.”
Viruses are not living things. Viruses are complicated assemblies of molecules, including proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, and carbohydrates, but on their own they can do nothing until they enter a living cell. Without cells, viruses would not be able to multiply. Therefore, viruses are not living things.
When a virus encounters a cell, a series of chemical reactions occur that lead to the production of new viruses. These steps are completely passive, that is, they are predefined by the nature of the molecules that comprise the virus particle. Viruses don’t actually ‘do’ anything. Often scientists and non-scientists alike ascribe actions to viruses such as employing, displaying, destroying, evading, exploiting, and so on. These terms are incorrect because viruses are passive, completely at the mercy of their environment." |

So for my project how do I explain why they're living organisms?

I can recall a thread similar to this made by someone who also hates furries
Seems weird, right OP? I got a memory of an elephant

"So for my project how do I explain why they're living organisms?"
You don't. As of right now, viruses aren't considered to be living organisms.

They're not.
So you wouldn't.
