latino from latin + (masculine spanish) o latin referring to latin american latin america being the area between the continental US and South America latin americans (you know them better as hispanics) being racially mixed between the Spanish and the indigenous people latino = racial mix not white

No I mean seriously, most of the natives in Mexico were wiped out by disease same as South America and most areas settled by Europeans. You don't see every American claiming to be mixed race.
