What is senate :
1.The Senate is one of the two houses of the Australian Parliament; the other is the House of Representatives. The Senate is also known as the upper house or the house of review. The Senate is made up of 76 senators: each elected to represent one of Australia's six states or two territories.Both the Senate and the House of Representatives debate and pass bills, scrutinise government and represent the people of Australia.
2.Our country's legislative branch, or Congress, includes another lawmaking body called the Senate. Voters elect two senators from each state, regardless of population size. There is equal representation from each state in the Senate. It doesn't matter if the state is big or small, densely or sparsely populated, or where it is located. Senators are elected every 6 years. The elections are staggered so that both senators from a state are not elected at the same time.
Only the Senate can approve or reject treaties and presidential nominations for government offices.
