no you really don't... There are no downsides to being the child of an athlete, besides the hours away from home. I have a friend whose dad was an MLB player while we were in Elementary school and he played for the Rangers and then the Padres for a couple of years after that. He only came home during the offseason. In fact I think he's the Rangers pitching coach right now and still only comes home during the offseason

"no you really don't... There are no downsides to being the child of an athlete, besides the hours away from home." unless you want to follow in your (usually) father's footsteps and become an athlete too and get constantly compared to him and having heavy pressure on everything that you do just because of your last name.....

Oh look at me, I have every opportunity to get the best training and coaching available to me from the minute I'm born and I'll be given every opportunity to play on elite level teams regardless of whether I'm actually talented or not Oh wait never mind, it actually sucks because there's soooo much pressure on me waaaaaaaaaaah

Filippo and Andrea Mancini suck at soccer and neither have scored a single goal in their careers, yet they've played for world class youth teams and have gotten numerous chances to prove themselves as pros even though there are players who never made it off the streets with 15x as much talent as they have But hey the pressure

it's really easy to say that crap until you actually see what it's like to be those kids who get unfairly compared to their parents.

Lol it's no different than having your father or mother be a doctor and you being expected to follow in their footsteps The only difference is that the doctor is actually important to society So...

Teemu Selänne is basically worshipped as a god in Finland. He has two sons who play hockey and neither of them will ever get anywhere close to the NHL level. Nobody in Finland cares about them other than the one time that one of them played for Finland's U18 team and was one of the worst players on the team. Since it's obvious that neither of them are going to play at the NHL level, nobody puts any pressure on them despite the fact that their dad is one of the country's all-time greatest sportspeople.

not really. 1. no one expects a superstar's son to be as good as his dad 2. not living up to be as good as him is the same as any random person not living up to be as good as him 3. you'll be living off of your dad's money, so even if your career doesn't work out you'd still be rich i'd love to be the child of a superstar athlete

I played against Daniel Alfredson son's team this year, and he doesn't look like he will ever get into the NHL at the level he is playing. Most kids don't have pressure to be like their parents, that really only happens when BOTH parents are professional athletes, otherwise, the kid probably won't be amazing at the sport, they could be good, but not good enough to be like their parents.

Wait, what pressure? There's no rule saying you must be a professional athlete like your father/mother.
