Yao ming is possibly the best international NBA player. Yao ming is also the reason the NBA is popular outside of the USA because it gave all these other countries a possibility of getting into the NBA. Its the "Hall of Fame" not the top 100 players of all time. He deserves a spot because he is probably one of the most "famous" international players.

"Yao ming is also the reason the NBA is popular outside of the USA because it gave all these other countries a possibility of getting into the NBA." You're forgetting the Yugoslavians who came to the NBA about 10 years earlier.

They made an impact but Yao Ming's impact was way larger.

It was, but not necessarily for Europe. Basketball had been popular in parts of Europe to begin with, particularily the Balkan and Baltic countries. Yao Ming introduced it to the rest of the world with the exception of the Philippines where it's been extremely popular for decades.

"Yao Ming introduced it to the rest of the world" A bit of an overstatement He only introduced it to East Asia, really nobody else cares/cared about Yao Ming's NBA career enough to start avidly playing/watching basketball just because of him

"win an mvp and you're guaranteed a spot in" If only Yao Ming ever won a single MVP award in his entire career

Yao Ming was injured for half of his career, only played 3 full seasons, only made the playoffs 3 times in his prime (first round eliminations), and never led the Rockets anywhere He's not a hall of famer lol

For basketball @ Vance with a heavy emphasis on the NBA He deserves to be in because of his huge impact on the NBA in Asia along with the fact that he was also a massively dominant player during his 7-8 years playing (average 25-10 in just 33 minutes per game in 2006-07, ridiculous)

And what I mean by "heavy emphasis" is that they are not going to enshrine the 18th best player of all time in Turkey. The focus is on the NBA, but for someone like Yao, who might not have the NBA longevity that most Hall of Famer inductees boast, he absolutely deserves to get in because of his profound impact on the NBA internationally.
