[mods, please dont delete this. if it turns into a major flamewar, then it's understandable. i don't mean to cause that though] While I do feel sympathy for them, and really wish them a life of no pain, or atleast similar to what an average person can feel. But that's an unreasonable hope, it's near impossible for all except for the better functioning ones! The ones who are just barely considered "Intellectually Disabled" can have a chance live alone and stuff that is close to normal, but from what I have seen, it's at the expense of others. Most of them rely on Disabled Benefits from the government, which costs others money and time. The only suggestions I have to combat that is: 1) Do more research on mental disabilities so that we can figure out how to prevent the birth of people who have them ( I mean so they never get it) 2) I hate to say this but euthanasia , if they have no hope. I really would dislike it if they did Number 2, as it's so unfair to the parents and the child. But it's even more unfair to make the child live through what they will be going through. I think their should be a test for infants that can recognize mental disabilities at an EXTREMELY young age, and tell if they will ever be able to function well enough.

Euthanasia should only be for SEVERE physical disorders like smooth brain syndrome and being born with only a brain stem. If Apple made a car, would it have Windows? | Add 15,422 to my post count

It's possible to be born with only a brain stem and live? I guess that makes sense. I know the brain stem controls things like breathing.

the vast majority of people with disabilities affecting their intellect are happy people who can still contribute to society. The US at least doesn't have enough resources or whatever for disabled people (education, caretakers, medical assistance) so they are worse off in general and when they are worse off they're less likely to be contributing members of society (when we are set up to make it difficult for them to be contributing)

actually there was a case of this guy who had basically no brain and he scored like 130 on an IQ test, was pretty normal and was a professor or something like that, they didn't even know he didn't really have a brain until later in his life.

You want to euthanize disabled people? Sir, that's what we civilized people call eugenics.

"You want to euthanize disabled people? Sir, that's what we civilized people call eugenics." Mr. Phoniex, I usually agree with whatever you post. I don't think it should be done, but I can't think of any good alternatives. I agree it would be cruel, but if they have no chance, isn't it cruel to force them to go through something that can be considered a living hell? And you seem to have modified what I said: I mentioned Euthanasia *ONLY* if they have no hope, and it is my fault for my specifying what I mean by "no hope". I meant they will be a vegetable, unable to comprehend any outside stimuli.

They should be treated as one of us. Regardless if they have a disability.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I think euthanasia is only acceptable either when it's consensual, or when the person is in a persistently vegetative state.

If I had no arms, legs, no way to speak, was horribly disfigured, and couldn't go anywhere without a machine I'd want to be dead. But we shouldn't execute all of the disabled.

I think euthanasia should be a human right, especially if one is on the death bed. It honestly so messed up for someone who is dying from a painful accident, illness, etc. And just for them still living a little longer is just horrible. Therefore I believe everyone one as the right for euthanasia as long they are 18 years old or older. I kind of think it should be like when you turn 16 or 18 you can legally sign something where you can have euthanasia committed on you in case if you were in a serious accident, illness, etc.

@captain I'm sorry, I do not know what BR is. @CasperTheGhost7 Hi Louis Morrell guy The problem with parents being able to sign for it is: Most parents are blinded by their love for the baby And religious purposes Something is seriously wrong if we let parents put their kids through decades of pain just because of their religion. Here's an example: /health/2013/07/16/girl-born-without-brain-is-now-6-years-old.html (fox news) That kid is living and their parents already plan her funeral. Messed up...

I AM an intellectually disabled kid! I live a satisfying life! How dare you even suggest euthanasia! That should only be used if they are actually suffering AND THEY WANT TO END IT THEMSELVES! And no, I don't see how it is at the expense of others. Yeah I got triggered but still.
