This procedure must be familiar to every officer in Police Scotland. The following sequence has been broken down into stages from the arrest to the hand over at custody. The Arrest: Persons MUST have their rights read out to them. These rights are as follows: "You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence." Transporting: Persons will then be transported in an officers car back to the nearest custody. Van units may be called to transport detainees. Custody: Upon arrival at the nearest police station, officers will inform the custody sergeant of the details leading to the persons arrest. Once complete, persons will be taken to a free cell and will stay there until let out by custody officers (minor public disorder offences) or further dealt with.
