What I mean by "loosely based on" is like how VAK is Helghast, but they've added their own unique touch to the theme.
We wouldn't be like X-Legion, it would be sort of an alternate history, "What if the Roman Empire still existed to this day, and functioned with modern technology?" type of thing
Our uniforms, places, and technology would still be easily recognizable as Romanesque.
Opinions? Suggestions? Let me know.

I know they're Roman, but your average person probably wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at the group. |

TGI was Roman? Omg I thought they were based on Gallifrey and the Timelords from Doctor Who since Arcadia was Gallifrey's second city and Castellan was a title of the head of guard or something. |

the byzantines were not an "add on"
when rome was too big to govern, they split the empire in half and set up two emperors
the roman emperor at the time went to govern the eastern half (byzantium)
after the fall of the western half of the empire, byzantium became the roman empire, but as time went on they adopted greek culture and then people started to consider them a completely different empire (which is why historically we consider them the ERE rather than the continuation of the roman empire)
