I'd just like to state that the pardon did happen (in my tenure as United States Attorney, I personally prosecuted this case). President Zeyad issued a pre-conviction pardon (permitted under Ex Parte Garland) before the trial got under way. The issue with the pardon claim in this context: pardons are specifically declared to not affect impeachment proceedings.
