I don't really see what's wrong with it. It's competitive, it's great with friends, and there's plenty of unique characters to choose from and master.
Also unlockables. Unlockables always keep the players coming back.

Obviously, but some games are more overexposed than others. I've been enjoying the new DOOM game, but I never see any memes or a lot of talk about it. |

Uh, the unlockable system is horrible. Random loot boxes, eh? It's hard to feel excited opening them up, because MUCH more often then not, you're going to get stuff that you don't want at all. Most people don't care about sprays, player icons, and voice lines.
If I see a skin I really like, why can't I just buy it? I've never played LoL, but I hear you can just BUY skins that you want. Just give Blizzard my money when I want something specifically for a character I actually play.

DOOM is certainly popular, but not as popular as Overwatch. The top popular/famous things are the ones that get the treatment, and it's rarely two at once. |

Yo, that beta was trash, though. To be fair, seemingly every beta is trash nowadays. They're less betas, and more demos of the final product. |

I'm pretty sure you can earn currency just from completing rounds, not only get it from loot boxes.
But then, I haven't been paying much attention to my currency, so maybe I should pay more attention to it. |

Nope, only from loot boxes, and I've found it's somewhat rare. Mostly comes in bursts of 50 which is barely anything.

I didn't say it wasn't successful. It was trash because it clearly wasn't a proper beta. It was just a marketing ploy to get people to try it for free about a month before the game's release date, AKA a demo. A lot of games have done this and are still doing this. |
