No, I get your point that the best player doesn't have to win a World Cup or Copa America to become the best ever, but almost every great player has won international silverware. Yes it's a team sport, I understand that, but people like Maradona single-handedly won the World Cup for Argentina... how do you expect for him to be the best ever if he can't win a Copa America when there are people single-handedly winning World Cups.

still waiting on jimbo to reply to this "it's post after post about "_______ wonderkid" and how you "rate them" Sorry that I like informing this forum about the future of the sport?

all right book, yes, they have led their teams to world cup, at least Maradona did, I'm not going to analyze every player on that list BUT, I think it's still unfair to base the final comparison on that when there is so much more that Messi has to offer besides "number of World Cups." The World Cup is held once every 4 years, that's an incredibly small window to prove yourself meanwhile Messi has won 4 Champions Leagues, 5 Ballon D'Ors, all the awards you can think of. I personally give more value to club success and I think that's where we come to an impasse. The club trains a countless amount of times and plays anywhere from 70-80 matches a year, while an international squad is organized for tournaments and friendlies and trains together sporadically and if you or anyone else is going to try and say that those 4 Champions League titles are the result of having a great team, please check yourself and don't forget how much of a role Messi played in those titles "Sorry that I like informing this forum about the future of the sport?" nothing wrong with that, it was just relevant in the context of my post

Messi could retire tomorrow and Barcelona could just buy the next hottest thing to replace him and not blink an eye

Lol Do you really think Barcelona would lose a step without Messi? And even if they did, they could spend tens of millions to replace him Messi isn't bigger than Barcelona

That's beside the point though, where we're talking about what has happened rather than what would happen and what has happened is Barcelona has 1 Euro cup title without Messi, 4 with him and 3 of his titles coming with being the tournament's leading goalscorer

"meanwhile Messi has won 4 Champions Leagues, 5 Ballon D'Ors, all the awards you can think of. I personally give more value to club success and I think that's where we come to an impasse. The club trains a countless amount of times and plays anywhere from 70-80 matches a year, while an international squad is organized for tournaments and friendlies and trains together sporadically" yes he's won a bunch of champions league titles and *4 ball d'ors, but let's remember that literally every single player that can be considered "one of the best" has won champions leagues (or their equivalent) and most if not all have won ballon d'ors. messi no matter what will be in the top 5 to ever play, but what makes those players better overall than messi is the fact that they could do it for club and country.

He's won 5* ballon d'ors, 2009-12 and 2015 And you can't just write that off as "most if not all have won ballon d'ors" when Messi has the most in history

IMO Messi is a very good player, but it is for sure hold backs since he hasn't won a world cup. Ronaldo, You weren't to specific on which Ronaldo. So it could be R9 (Brazilian and Better one) Or CR7. But since you did compare Ronaldo to Messi, i'll take it that you were referring to CR7. CR7, Really doesn't get very high in my personal charts. Yea, he has the record for for most goals scored in a single UEFA Champions League season, having scored 17 goals in the 2013–14 season. But like Lionel Messi, I don't think CR7 has ever won a world cup. So you can't really compare them there. If I did have to make a list of Top 10 players EVER it would go something like this. NOTE THIS IS ALL MY OPIONION 1. Pele (of course) 2. Johan Cruyff 3. Messi 4. Ronaldo (Brazilian.) 5. Diego Maradona 6. Ruud Gullit 7. Zinedine Zidane 8. Alfredo di Stefano 9. Franz Beckenbauer 10. Garrincha #code print ("Note this was imo")
