Just last week Xbox live announced that it would be recycling nearly 1 million gamertags previously owned by inactive or terminated users. This was a major step in the right direction as it allowed the community to get rid of extraneous numbers or characters in their name and replace it with something meaningful, creative or just plain awesome that they were unable to use in the first place. ROBLOX is a rapidly growing enterprise with millions of accounts already and thousands being created on a daily basis, I believe it's time it does the same. Now, personally I think deleting inactive accounts as a whole would be redundant. A viable solution to this would be automatically changing the players username into a randomized code (i.e 73he3hw, 4ej61d2, etc.) which they could later change if they ever choose to come back. Prior to this though, the player should be informed via email that this could potentially occur if he or she does not respond, sort of like what Twitter does to inactive accounts. In my opinion, at-least a year of inactivity is enough to warrant such email, but that is up to ROBLOX. Also, players that have been terminated should automatically have their usernames given up, I have no clue why this isn't being done already. Thank you for reading, please leave your support or ask questions below, I'll be more than happy to answer.

Even if they deleted the usernames of people's inactive accounts, the problem would still arise of people making spam alts with great names, just a new generation of users doing it. It's hardly fair to remove these names anyways, as the people who made them probably like that account and want it to stay untouched. Erasing usernames upon deletion is also a bad idea because we have an appeal system, and also particularly with forums, ROBLOX stores post data in accordance with username rather than user ID. People would take deleted forumers username's and get all of their posts and such, effectively "becoming" them. No support at all.

The creation of alternate accounts using recycled usernames would be very minimal, there is absolutely no doubt that usernames created in 06, 07, and 08 are in much higher demand than the ones being created now with underscores and numbers at the end. If you own an account just for the name snipe but don't use it for a long period of time, that's your fault. Actually I'm pretty sure data is stored in accordance with user ID, it wouldn't make sense any other way since players are now able to change their name. ROBLOX is not stupid, if this petition were to go through it's indisputable that they would implement something to prevent the forum posts and other assets from carrying over.

">Implying roblox will listen to petitions" Sounds like you're clueless otherwise you would have known several updates have been implemented in the past as a result of petition threads posted here

If they make them available those names are going to be in extreme high demand, be recreated, and thus hoarded. People literally used to use bots to create namesnipes based off a wordlist, and there is more botting currently than ever. Captcha won't necessarily solve this either. No, it is based by username. A couple examples of this are the user freez_man (now renamed to QuantumRevolver), he was an old top 100 poster, and after the underscore name update the account was recreated. Same with nueva2 and poker_man29, look up old 2006 posts by these users and you will see 2016 accounts have "posted" them. They're all owned by deighton2008 or something like that. A more recent example is AlexCrownsGod, the name was removed off of linkmon99's acc since he was compromised at the time, then someone took the name and got all his posts. I have several post glitched alts too. This petition won't go through anyways, they've already said they're not doing it. They hold account ownership in high regard here. If they won't let you use an 2007 acc that you pg'ed for the join date, they're surely not going to remove thousands of their usernames either.

I think you're missing the point. The whole idea here is that current users would receive an opportunity to potentially receive a better name, whether it's just by changing their current one or creating a new account with the new availabilities. I do agree with you, they will be in very high demand, but how exactly is this an issue? "No, it is based by username. These are small incidents that are a result of website error. If ROBLOX planned on implementing something like what I'm suggesting, I'm sure they would take the time to ensure errors like that do not occur. Where exactly have they said they won't be doing anything like this? Had I known, I wouldn't have made a thread.

Honestly I forget where it was said that they won't do this so I can't link anything in particular, but in my time here I've heard quite a few mods say they aren't going to pull off something like this
