The One and Done Rule It has restrained talent to the point where this talent could leave its prime when doing 1 or 2 years of college

From around '95-'05 players were going straight from High School to the NBA and skipping College, big example is Kobe Bryant The rule makes players forced to go into college and be 19 or so older to be eligible to be drafted into the NBA Colleges are ticked because kids who don't want to be in school are forced to be in school, and have to go to the pros afterwards

so then why does the NFL not lack talent, but the NBA does? You have to stay in college even longer to be in the NFL than you do to be in the NBA.

this is just speculation, but football is more physically demanding than basketball and seniors coming out of high school are more than likely not developed enough

im not sure what that has to do with the NBA lacking talent while the NFL has an abundance. Is it just that the NFL is THAT MUCH more popular than the NBA? Is the NBA that much more difficult of a sport? Im curious.

well i personally dont think losing 1 year of your prime is that big of a hole to notice lost talent i'm just saying that 19 year olds probably cant be as effective in football as they can in basketball

its not losing a year of your prime though. nobody is in their prime in the first year of their career. I agree with your point as its pretty obvious to me that that's the case. I'm just trying to discover why the NBA lacks as much talent as it does while the NFL has such an abundance to the point where UDFA's can make an impact. When was the last time someone off the street in the NBA made an impact?

yeah prime wasn't the right word more so just a year of their professional year again still speculation but in the nba rosters are much smaller because there's only 10 people on the court at once instead of the 22 for football.. less people are given the opportunity to succeed while in the NFL it's not rare to see the UDFAs going from the practice squad to making a legitimate impact on a team like willie snead on the saints (Not sure if he was undrafted but the point stands) teams would much rather take the 7 foot foreign busts instead of searching for true talent

Im beginning to lean towards the skill gap in football. If you're a god at football, there are still 10 teamates you must rely on and 11 on the other team trying to stop you. In the NBA you can play much more selfishly, leading to the worse players getting exposed more so than they do in football. Hence in football while you gameplan for the other teams star players, an UDFA can sneak up on you and make a play and he will have done his job for the game. In the NBA, a nobody can come off the bench and drain a tough shot, but he must then go right back for a chance to get exposed on defense. Its a lot easier to notice screw ups in the NBA than it is in the NFL. that is my final analysis on why the NFL has more talent than the NBA

The NBA isn't lacking talent

true which is why people like lebron can carry mediocre teams to the finals like he did before (well that's a bit unheard of honestly but at least carry them to a playoff spot. lebron is special for carrying them to the finals) while you can't do that in the NFL

maybe because the offense and defense in the NFL consist of entirely different players while in the NBA you have to play both. the NFL has more players on each team so DUH there are going to be more stars

@ext its pretty obvious the NBA is in fact lacking talent. &yes thats one aspect of it, but we were discussing the ability of somebody off of the street to come in and make an impact (unheard of in the NBA, but relatively frequent in the NFL)

and you can name a few people that may have done it in the NBA, and someone could come back and name 10x more that have done it in the nfl

"not really. maybe at center" lmao. there are only 3-4 teams capable of winning it all in any given year. In the NFL, that number is close to 15. that is because across the board the NFL is more talented than the NBA. Which is one of the many reasons it is more exciting imo

there is absolutely no parity at all in the NBA, that's how it's been since it was founded college has nothing to do with it, that's just how basketball works get used to it Iᴛ ᴀɪɴᴛ ᴇᴀsʏ, ʙᴇɪɴɢ Cʜᴇᴇsᴇʏ.

Is this thread for real The NBA is not "lacking talent" at all and the arguments in this thread are stupid The NBA has 5 men on a court at a time, it's a sport where player talent rules over all, a star-driven league in the NFL no position is nearly as valuable to the team as a position in the NBA, except maybe QB The level of parity within a league is not an indication of the league's talent level
