Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. I am Jackson026 and I will be running for city council. To tell you a bit about myself, I came to Norfolk and my first job was an assistant for a former councilperson. From there, I applied to the NCFD but was unfortunately declined due to unknown reasons. I then applied to the NCPD when applications went out and I was accepted the first time. I was a police officer and graduate of Class 17 in the NCPD for approximately a month before applying for the fire department when applications went out again. On my second application with the fire department, I was accepted. I was in the fire department for about three weeks to a month as a graduate of class 14 before then applying to the Department of Corrections, where I am currently employed as well as a graduate of Class 22. I also happen to be a Licensed Attorney with the Norfolk City General District Court, so if you need an attorney, you can contact me. Now that's enough about my jobs in Norfolk, up next is my qualities and why I'm qualified for councilperson.
I understand that a lot of you may or may not know me, but I am a rather easy-going person and I am willing to listen to what people have to say. I also am a person of integrity and good citizenship. I believe that these are qualities that any person in government must have. It is important for a councilperson to not only be able to speak and give his/her opinion or vote on a matter, but also to be able to listen to what other people have to say and keep an open mind on things. If someone were to approach me with something that I may not personally agree with, but he or she has a legitimate reason or cause for their idea, I am going to support it if it is for the benefit for the City of Norfolk, the citizens of Norfolk, the emergency services, or any other person or organization associated with the City of Norfolk.
I am dedicated to the safety, security, and service of the citizens of Norfolk as that is the oath that I have taken three times now, and with me being a councilperson, I will only increase that level of trust and service that the citizens of Norfolk put into my hands. Now while I am open to new ideas as always, I will give you my opinion on a matter as needed, I will give you my advice on it, and I will let you know what I can do to help or fix whatever it is that you have brought to my attention as a councilperson. As some may say, I'll 'give it to you straight.' By that, I mean that I'm not going to go around the corner and avoid a question or problem, I will take on that problem or whatever the case may be and I will deal with it directly and proficiently.
My goals for my term as councilman are rather simple, and that is to serve the people of Norfolk at the best of my ability, vote on bills and laws that are in the best interests for the City and it's citizens, maintain a constantly improving city as best I can, and be an advocate for the citizens in the council meetings. This is my pledge. If I, at any time, fail to uphold these standards, you will not have to ask for my resignation from the council, I will willingly resign by my own will. I hold myself to a very high standard and that is what you all should expect from me.
