Okay, so, to start this long topic, I must say now that I will not provide a Tl;dr so if it is too long, try to read it anyways. I will describe it in two ways, the technical way and the non-technical way. THE NON-TECHNICAL WAY: ROBLOX has a shirt template laid out for us, and it is very similar to the pants template. It uses the same grid, which makes it easier to use. ROBLOX templates for shirts and pants get shrunken though, because they need to fit in a square image that would be part of a doubling system. The template its self is 585 pixels by 589 pixels. Now, with the doubles system, it could be made 1, 2, 4, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 or 1028 pixels squared. They decided, instead of making it 1028 by 1028 pixels, they wanted to take up less space, so they shrunk it to 512 by 512 instead. This makes it have an area at the top and bottom that is invisible, or transparent, in paint programs. The size of the actual template is made to be 512 by 489 because of this, which blurs the textures we make. It isn't much of a blur, but it still hinders the design process we took to detail our clothes. Now, in which of any case, a lot of people don't mind this next design flaw: The template has gray area between the folded parts that is actually displayed on the character. It has shown on the areas that are beveled, or the areas where one surface curves to the next. It can be very unappealing to look at, which is why I suggest ROBLOX have a two pixel white outline around the actual body parts, and have a message letting people know they can edit there too. It would probably be a large help to a lot of new BC players that want to make clothes. My last and final suggestion: Make the template larger or smaller permanently. Make it be an exact square as well. If you have the textures fit into a perfect square, and make the template be exactly 512 by 512 or 1028 by 1028, it will be a huge help to new BC buyers. THE TECHNICAL WAY: ROBLOX has a shirt template that is practically identical minus some of the textures that they display your character with. ROBLOX shirt and pants templates get shrunken with an anti-alias to be made from 585x559 to 512x489. Most games use the identification system to have each texture have a specific limitation. The limitations, more specifically, are in a doubling system. Since 512 is a double, they shrink down the clothes to be that size in width. There is a transparent space left behind at the top and bottom as well, with a space of 512x11 pixels at the top and 512x12 pixels at the bottom, or possibly vice versa, this is only minor calculation. Now, as it stands, they also have gray space between the arms, which when textured properly, can mold the textures over the edges of the bevels on the player's arms. I would suggest having a two pixel outline around the textures to display where the bevels appear, and let new BC players know to edit there as well. My last and final suggestion: Make the template larger or smaller permanently, and make it be either exactly 512x512 or exactly 1028x1028. It will be a huge help to new BC buyers if this is to happen. "Naw naw naw, you can't do that to me fam. Remember when I helped you out last week?" ~Me, my shelf, and pie

The only idea I understand is the one with the outlines. I've seen it. So I wouldn't mind if they added the change to the template.

The templates are really old anyway. I agree that they should make using the templates easier.

JUST REALIZED I WAS WAY OFF ON SIZE. It is 420 by 420 and has 9 pixels at the top with 10 on the bottom, and the template gets shrunken to 420 by 401. "Naw naw naw, you can't do that to me fam. Remember when I helped you out last week?" ~Me, my shelf, and pie

Okay VCRaygamma, to explain this in simpler terms, without making it a Tl;dr... All textures that get run through roblox that are any higher than 420 by 420 in size will be shrunken. Most applications use a feature called "anti-alias" which makes the image blurred slightly, so large portions don't look chunky and messy. As well as this, anything higher than 420 by 420 that's smaller in width than height or vice versa will be made to have a transparent area at the top, bottom or sides. A transparent area means that all color in the area has an alpha of 0, making it completely invisible, and games can take advantage of this by making folding models reveal the layer beneath, as long as it has one. If there is no layer beneath, some games compensate by making the transparent area black, or just leave it invisible, so you can see in one side and out the other. I really hope I helped you understand this better. "Your lack of grammar is causing me to lose brain cells." ~Anonymous

They're just gonna shrink it any way, which just makes this an unnecessary step. If you're gonna submit it, shrink your large version before you do. Will have the same effect and not cause a need for an extra step to moderation that may or may not be modbottable.

HalfPinky456 "you're using the wrong template" No... Just... no. Congrats on knowing what a conjunction is and using it properly though. c; imadognotahuman "They're just gonna shrink it any way, which just makes this an unnecessary step. Would you mind explaining this in a bit further detail? So far I don't see this as any kind of problem, so I'd like to know what you mean more in depth.
