The small size of a basketball roster combined with an EXTREMELY lenient salary cap leads to team stacking like this, even though the salary cap is supposed to prevent such a thing. Might as well remove the salary cap because it's not going to affect anything, unless you want to make it work properly.

The NBA certainly did care when they blocked the Chris Paul to the Lakers trade a few years ago.

Clippers are in the same market. Stern would get both sides of the LA metro on the side. If it were to say a trade to OKC, he would most likely have it pass as OKC is a small market.

Lakers destroyed the market until the trade. It created the modern Clippers fan.

And? It's not like the modern clipper fan wasn't a laker fan till that point lol. The Clips were a joke. David Stern blocking the Paul trade is one of the biggest league owner gaffs ever.

the market essentially got split when the Lakers became a joke. nothing was added, nothing would have been lost.

in fact ,it probably means less money for the league. The Clips will never reach the popularity of the Lakers country-wide

"but the NBA makes more money if the Lakers are still atop the NBA" If this was the case Stern would've never vetoed the trade
