Lynyrd Skynyrd isn't entirely racist. What happened was: Neil Young would write songs bashing Southern culture. He basically invented all of the Southern stereotypes you see today about all of them being country bumpkins who still think we're in the Civil War. Lynyrd Skynyrd turned that around on him when they wrote "Sweet Home Alabama", in which they basically said 'Screw you! Southerners rock!' The only reason people associate them with racism is because people think Lynyrd Skynyrd embraced racism with "Sweet Home Alabama", when in reality, they simply embraced Southern culture. Racism isn't a part of Southern culture. |
