Because it looks better for everyone.
Listen first! You might think I'm crazy when I say that. Why would 60fps look better than 144fps??? It doesn't, but when playing the game capping at 60fps will give you a better experience.
The framerate of games can change wildly depending on what's going on in them. If you're on a baseplate that has nothing on it you're going to get a good framerate. If you're in a gun battle or in a place with a ton of physically-simulated parts you aren't gonna get a good framerate. However, some computers can handle the more demanding places just fine! But when you get to framerates that high the framerate can vary A LOT. You'll notice that framerate drop almost immediately, even if it's 10 frames.
Capping it at 60fps gives the computer some breathing room and gives you a more consistent framerate. |
