roblox in terms of the game has never been better
old school roblox was really limited in terms of what you could do. probably the biggest limitation was the lack of data persistence which is really taken for granted nowadays. since there wasn't a real save system most games were either designed to be simple enough to not need saving or it used a long 8-12 digit number that you would have to write down to "save" your progress and enter whenever your rejoined the game. lighting and global illumination also wasn't a thing so you couldn't create dark games. sound was canned to maybe like the same 10-20 sound bites. developers couldn't create their own GUIs. overall scripting was a lot less powerful and a lot more unreliable. the level of FPS or other shooter games were just using a brick model "carbine" that spammed smaller bricks that one shotted you. in general until like 2013 the front page of ROBLOX games was clogged with low effort crappy obbies and other stereotypical free modeled games.
in terms of a community its a little bit better but thats not saying much
online dating didn't really become a thing until the summer of 2009 but the community before that still sucked. people were just as immature, but except they couldn't swear or else they would get an infraction. nowadays roblox is targeting pre teens to younger teenagers so its a little bit more mature
