why does america use a sunday-saturday calendar with sunday being the start of the week. i thought sunday was the end of the weekend, which is the end of the week, which should go at the back end of the calendar like the monday-sunday format. also because monday is widely considered as the start of the week; start of the work week and start of the school week specifically. but instead of monday being at the head of the calendar, its put at #2.

weekend as in bookends, one on each end(side) of the week, not the actual end of a week.

Saturday is the day god rested which would mean Sunday would be the 1st day. I'm completely basing this off of Judaism and in Christianity y'all believe that Sunday was the rest day. Either way, it is based off of religion.
