It doesn't matter how big your military is if they just use jets to bomb half of the enemies away, and then use the navy to shell the be########nd then after that sends in maybe half a million troops to make the stragglers surrender.
War isn't about "What's fair" it's about "Who has the most advantages".
In the modern era, the United States has the most advantages.
-Largest and most advanced Navy
-Largest and most advanced Airforce
-The M1A1 Abrams is arguably the best Tank maybe with Chinese and Russians competing
-Most advanced military (Thermal Imaging, Gunships, Laser designation, Night scopes, etc.)
-U.S. soldiers during Vietnam weren't trained to a standard that they are today.
The only disadvantages that the U.S. would have in a future war against Vietnam would be:
-Sheer amount of Vietnamese soldiers (Most of them young, inexperienced, low quality equipment)
-They know the land and are probably more adjusted to warfare in a jungle
With this information it can be concluded that regardless of military size, the U.S. still has more advantages and thus, in a conventional war, the U.S. would win. I mean, if they wanted to, they could have easily just napalmed the entire country during Vietnam, but our goal wasn't to conquer your country, it was just to destabilize it
