I don't think it matters. As long as the width and length are the same it will be fine, as group thumbnails are square.

I done one and it was to big it didn't work out well, I dedicated 3 hours into that but it was to big, so if there are specific or most used sizes, can anyone tell me?

500 x 280 for game thumbnails, group icons are square so as long as it's the same way each way it's fine.
