Hello there, first off I just want to say this is in a no way written in demand or anger, but rather to try and express some problems to Roblox. I'm not here outraged, screaming at the top of my lungs at Roblox that some people resort to but to try and explain to Roblox why some game creators feel the chat censor is currently not a good thing. Now personally I come from a time when there wasn't really a strict censor system on Roblox, but rather they relied on the players to report "foul language."
First off I want to say that I do indeed strongly support a filter system, I think it's a good thing for everyone and makes Roblox a more inviting and healthier game to be apart. But with filter systems comes the all important task of picking what words to filter and why. This itself is crucial to the entirety of a filter system whether it is fair, or simply an overbearing obstacle. Recently my game -22 and Dropping was temporarily taken down due to our use of an unapproved custom chat that did not support Roblox rules. And I will not disagree or argue, yes it was against the rules of Roblox but it was in no way done to defy Roblox. It was done because we felt we had to in order to still have a good, fun and satisfying game. Many people might ask, "Well what does it really matter? How does the chat effect so much of your game." And for many games in all honesty it doesn't, it doesn't hurt your game because it is not essential. But for the role-playing games on Roblox that is not the case. Chat almost is entirely what your game is when it comes down to it, it's the fundamentals of roleplay.
Which is why it is also oh so important that if a filter is used on the chat, it is fair, effective, and appropriate. We the game developers of such games simply do not feel that is the case currently, in some instances it makes your roleplay nearly impossible when you constantly have like after line blanked out by hashtags, and then spending 5 minutes trying to rephrase yourself because you can't figure out what you said wrong. I get it, roleplay isn't the biggest genre on Roblox, thought about often or much consideration put into it. But after all roleplay helps you use the creativity of your mind, the same exact thing that Roblox has been built upon. And it is my belief that the current filter system is hurting, watering down, and ruining the enjoyment of people that play these types of games. And to repeat myself again, I am not asking Roblox to rip away the filter system.
All I am doing is trying to give my opinion on this subject and asking Roblox to please re-evaluate the current system and some of the words that are currently "outlawed" because of such system simply because they may carry some "inuendos" with them. So in conclusion all I ask if for Roblox to reasses the current barred words and if possible come up with an updated and more focused system. You can support this, or you cannot. All I am doing is trying to voice my current frustration, thank you.
tl;tr- rethink some of the words filtered out because of the chat system. thanks for your time |
