And your best friends became your friends and your friends became your followers? And you had to send friend requests to people who you thought that you were on their best friends list but apparently you valued them as a friend more than they valued you as a friend xD

Yeah followers are just another level of privacy you can choose for people to be able to message you. Nobody thinks you're better if you have more followers.
