well it's important to remember the distinction between the many definitions the term has gone through
the bourgeoisie, as they were known for almost the entirety of the middle ages, was as a middle class city dweller, likely a merchant or trader
in french revolution terms, they were the middle class responsible for the reform brought about after the monarchy collapsed
the modern term is anyone that owns capital and extracts profit from the work of their laborers in exchange for a wage (important to note that just because someone is rich does not mean they are a member of the bourgeoisie, the term is defined solely by their relation to capital, therefore they can be rich or poor but the vast majority of them are wealthy, so there is a significant overlap)
