If you think spanking is abuse, I'm sorry to tell you that the world is not one giant liberal safe space.

You talk like a liberal. And you're afraid of things you disagree with. Sounds like a safe space to me.

I'm afraid that if I allow my son to be rude to an authority figure ( his father ) that this behavior will continue unless it is met with negative consequences. Basic Psychology. Say, for example, he is rude to his boss and he gets fired for it. That would be a real world example.

"I am not committing CRIMES AGAINST MY CHILDREN! I use spanking to teach my family that there are consequences to their actions. When they make a mistake in the real world, they won't have mommy to bail them out. I'm able to now, but in 10 years? Nope. If they don't learn today, when will they? In prison?" I grew up as an autodidact. When I make mistakes I analyze these mistakes and make sure that I make the most out of it which really made me an optimistic person. However, physical punishment to your children to simulate consequences is wrong. It teaches nothing but fear of parent and lack of self-esteem. < Christians apparently praise this. However, when I did make mistakes I would learn because there are consequences no matter what. I don't need my parent to do that for me. Give your kids more credit.

actually basic psychology is that using pain as a means of punishment rather than explaining morality makes them afraid of you, instead of afraid of breaking the rules - once they're out of the house and no longer have to be afraid of you, they won't have any reason to follow rules - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd

If the child understands why they are being punished, which my kids often do, then spanking works wonders. Spanking used incorrectly, however, can be detrimental. It is all about how it is done. Spanking in a loving way = good
