are u a firm believer in the hippocratic oath
Z007
#207464380Tuesday, January 17, 2017 5:13 AM GMT

i don't know what all is in the hippocratic oath but yeah it seems good RANDOM SIDENOTE: i used to work at a retirement home and thus am contractually bound to HIPPA. if i violate a resident's privacy i'm subject to a 25k fine or a 1m fine - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd

#207464511Tuesday, January 17, 2017 5:15 AM GMT

do they actually fine people up to 1M dollars for that? like the point of working in a retirement home isn't to make 1M dollars, how in god's name are you supposed to pay that off, without going to jail? lol
Z007
#207464776Tuesday, January 17, 2017 5:19 AM GMT

yeah they'll slap a fine that large, but for people working in a retirement home they'll probably just drop 25k and stuff HIPPA applies to pretty much everything medical related - LTC (retirement homes), hospitals, all that good stuff. there's some group that enforces it, and they decide whether or not to prosecute/how much to charge there's a hospital near me that got fined millions of dollars because of HIPPA violations. when a doctor left that hospital and requested her patients' medical files, they didn't perform a secure deliver and thus a bunch of files were left on her driveway. hospital was held liable. (they shipped 'em in boxes via fedex lmao) - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd

that being said i'm not sure how they distinguish the amount to fine. i didn't read all the paperwork lmao i had to sign SO MANY DOCUMENTS during orientation at that place. Ended up memorizing ## ### because I had to write it down for them so many times. - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd

most of the stuff they teach you on medical school in the US is basically how to deal with lawsuits or rather the paperwork medicine part of medicine agree or nah? ive heard several people who support this so id love more opinions tbh... way to bureaucratic that it harms people more than it helps.

nah i don't really agree with that, yuuri see here's the thing - there's so much more education than just the graduate med school thing. there's pre-med, then the med school, then residency. each takes like 4 years they definitely do teach the legality, but in this sue-happy world that's kinda necessary. however, students also get tons of medical knowledge thrown in over those ~12 years of schooling - your friendly neighborhood medical nerd
