this works alright for the mood and all, meh
The surrealistic moments in this game clearly paint a ship sailing on an ocean as 'society and culture', etc. etc. The ship goes down. The protagonist (in this dream) is only saved by a spaceship going __away__ from the rest of them. The protagonist is labelled 'a heretic' and 'evil' by society, even though he is far from it. They want to brainwash him and force him into compliance -- both the group he's rebelling from, and it's clear alternative, which he realizes is both equally evil.
The protagonist and the player (ie, actual you) are very clearly DIFFERENT. You are NOT the protagonist. The protagonist is the protagonist. You're guiding him. This is why some moments are third person and others are first person -- in reality, it's all first person, because "you're a light in the darkness that powers this character to make a difference."
The thing that makes this clone different is that he has __you__. All the others have failed and becomes their own antithesises -- they become demons. Without you, he slips into darkness and 'demonism'.
You, of course, can also fail and slip into this darkness, dooming everyone as well. There's no 'But thou must!' Simply, game over.
it's very much about politics, and 'the two opposing sides' can be conservatism or liberalism, authoritarianism or libertarianism, etc. etc. The only right answer is the right answer. One way or another, with the established sets, you'll end up with Big Brother or Big Sister. You need to take a third option -- be a light in infinite darkness.
