She won by 4.3 million in california and 1.7 million in New york, if Hillary didn't win by a landslide in these two states guess what ### ######## HAVE THE POPULAR VOTE. The fact is manhattan, South western california, seattle, Philadelphia, and the Norther Eastern U.S should not control who becomes president or what policy dictates the rest of the nation.

So why should the votes of cities be disregarded compared to rural areas?

^ Were not disregarding the cities votes, were just saying they shouldn't dictate the policy of the nation it should be a equal with the rural areas.

"Were not disregarding the cities votes, were just saying they shouldn't dictate the policy of the nation it should be a equal with the rural areas." So swing states should dictate the policy of the nation? Cities largely outnumber rural areas so it makes sense that they should get the power. Put 1 million people in 1 state but 20 people in the other 49 states, the lower population wins because you are trying to give areas the vote, not the actual voters.

No, rural states have too much power. Its unfair that they automatically get 3 electoral votes stolen from other states. We are a representative democracy, meaning that the government should correlate with the population. If a bigger portion of the country is urbanized its not fair that you get to take their votes away. Seeing that urbanized states contribute a bigger share of the economy, employment, and innovation I don't see why we need to pay welfare to these republican rural states

An electoral system made over 200 years ago should not dictate proper democracy. The fact that over 2.5 million Americans voted for clinton over trump, shows how flawed the system is. In many states it was a matter of <0.9% to which it would flip.

^ Your not understanding, what works in a city may not work in a ruural area and since there are more rural areas it isn't necesarily fair if cities control everything.

It works because practically every other representative democracy uses the same system. We're the odd ball out. Certain states have a higher population for a reason, and having just a popular vote would mean states wouldn't matter, one vote for one person. I don't think its fair that a person in Arizona has the voting power of 31 voters in California.
