"@cap i think USA vs canada would be if the game was like the best gold medal game ever (outside of miracle on ice)"
The thing is that the "best game ever" value of the Miracle on Ice comes from the fact that the USA wasn't nearly as good in the early 1980s as they are now (while the Soviets were, along with the Canadians, the best team in the world), plus the almost unrivaled political tension between then and the Soviets. Not to mention that the Soviets used their own legal system to exploit loopholes in the Olympics' rules regarding amateurs so that they could have their absolute best players while the USA was stuck with a team made up entirely of NCAA players, although to be fair the 1980 Olympic team did eventually end up producing part of what was then a golden generation for US hockey.
A modern equivalent of that would be if, say, China's relations with the USA worsened significantly and they sent a B-team to the Olympic hockey tournament in 2022 after years of developing a team for the games and somehow beat the Americans. |
