The Barclay's center
I saw a video on this. The islanders, granted if they want to move out of barclays (which they should), they say they would move to Queens and build an arena there, or move into MSG with the rangers.
I'm not an islanders fan, but if nawsa coliseum wasn't torn down, couldn't they just make massive renovations to the arena and go back there? Or is it too late? |

issue is the capacity of the arena for hockey is literally 13k.

Though it seems kind of weird for two teams to share the same arena, the NHL has already done this in the past with the Montreal Maroons and Canadiens. The Maroons were meant to target the english speaking fan base while the Canadiens targeted the french speaking fans. The Maroons attendance became the worst in the league during the Great Depression and they soon folded. I really doubt the Islanders will ever move out of New York, I can see them moving into MSG for a little while as they look to build a new stadium somewhere in New York. If Gary Bettman is so keen on keeping the Coyotes in the desert and the Panthers in Florida, he will most surely work his #### off to keep the Islanders in New York, a franchise better than both Florida and Arizona combined. /ℯ ςαℸωℴღαη |

Move the Islanders wherever they want, as long as it's not MSG. I don't think they can move off Long Island though. If they did they would have to change the "Islanders" to something else.

Literally why do people think that having two teams play at MSG, even in a temporary arrangement, is a bad idea? |

I guess it sort of tarnishes the rivalry between the Rangers and Islanders.

If anything wouldn't that make it somewhat better?
In Europe for example there's a few hockey rivalries where teams share an arena (for example the Tampere derby in Finland and the Stockholm derby in Sweden) |

It's also because most Islanders fans live on Long Island, MSG is firmly in Rangers territory and a massive travel for any fans. I believe the Islanders suffer this issue as is, it would be even worse at MSG.
Their best bet for a temporary arena would probably just to go back to Nassau for a few seasons TBH, sure they'd be the smallest arena in the NHL by 2k but at least it doesn't look like absolute trash and is only temporary.

Yeah, moving to MSG is not a long term solution to the Islanders troubles. The Rangers are huge market, and that has been an issue for the Islanders ever since they arrived. The Islanders need to find the right spot , whether that's in Queens, Brooklyn, or Nassau.
And of course with any team, fans show when their team has a quality on-ice product.

No, countless parking lot fights and fights in the stands would not make it better. That's like putting the Red Sox and the Yankees in the same stadium. You're asking for trouble at that point
