I'm not the movie connoisseur, nor do I visit my local cinema every weekend, but I have seen a decent amount of movies in my lifetime so I can safely rate a good amount of requests. I'm not that harsh of a critic, so If I give a film a rating of 4 or higher, it's a fantastic movie, and a rating of 5 is a legendary or a classic. I'll start off with the AFI's Top 10s for the last 3 years:
From the American Film Institute Awards 2016's Top 10 films of the year:
- La La Land (5/5) *COMMENT: Would be one of my top 10 films ever*
- Sully (4/5)
(PLANNING TO SEE: Hell or High Water, Manchester by the Sea)
From the American Film Institute Awards 2015's Top 10 films of the year:
- Star Wars: The Force Awakens (4.5/5)
- The Martian (4/5)
(DESIRING TO SEE: Mad Max: Fury Road, Straight Outta Compton)
From the American Film Institute Awards 2016's Top 11 films of the year (a good year in film!):
- Boyhood (5/5) *COMMENT: Would be one of my top 5 films ever*
- The Imitation Game (4.5/5)
- Selma (4.5/5)
- Unbroken (4.5/5) *COMMENT: Very close to earning a 5/5*
(DESIRING TO SEE: Birdman, Interstellar, Whiplash)
Post some movies in the thread, and I'll tell you if I haven't seen it or I'll give a rating out of 5. |

Can confirm, Boyhood is one of my favorite movies now. |

@eric
To be honest with you, Home Alone 2 was a tough grade in my opinion because it's better than a 4 but it wasn't, like almost every sequel in existence, as good as the original. I just bumped it up to a 4.5 |
|

Oh yeah, realized in the original post it says 2016, but it should say 2014 |

yeah not as good as original but it's not bad in general so i guess that's a fair rating |

"Can confirm, Boyhood is one of my favorite movies now."
The theme of the movie isn't hidden for interpretation, it's explicitly given near the end, but what makes me relate with the movie almost exactly is just simply growing up as a child/teenager in Texas (I can tell you the exact locations of 90% of that movie haha) with not necessarily divorced parents like the movie, but parents that have been into conflicts ever since I could remember memories. |

"rogue one"
4.5/5. You could make a debate that it was better than The Force Awakens but it's not worth to try and give a comparison at all
In fact, all Star Wars-related films that aren't animated are probably around a 4.5 in my book |

chef is good and so is ##### |

And actually, I'm glad to see The Grand Budapest Hotel wasn't in the best 11 films list for 2014. Overrated film imo, and I give it a 3.5/5 |
|
|
EDIT:
Upgrade Sully to 4.5 |

ur grading scale is so bad omg

"ur grading scale is so bad omg"
"I'm not the movie connoisseur"
"I'm not that harsh of a critic"
I mean, yeah, upon careful consideration, there's likely exceptions, but I'm generally favorable toward the Star Wars franchise |

"doctor strange"
Never seen, but I see it has a pretty good rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Worth a watch? |
