i could see it being used but i don't see a very good reason why people should use it. your followers idea could be a self goal but i mean overall i don't think its a very good idea.

you can, create a game that's good so people will notice you, post on the forums so people will notice you, create shirts so people will notice you or create models so people will notice you. If people like what you produce, they will follow you. You can also make messages "followers only" so people will have to follow you to message you.
