"As science advances, religions retract their beliefs to match science eventually" Too broad of a statement.

Until religion is proven wrong, atheism is a belief.

@urban If you agree that trends exist, then the basic trend is as science advances, religion falls back Greek religion explained the elements Elements became scientific knowledge, Greek religion fell

"Early human beliefs" Such as? "Mayan religion" No. Modern mayan religions still exist, just more diverse than before. "Greek/Roman religion" Such as? "Egpytian religion" What, like Islam? You're telling me Islam no longer remains today?

No matter what your standpoint in this debate is, you have to realize how irrelevant this is. Whether Christianity, Islam, etc. are the single divine truth is irrelevant. Beliefs are created and die out regardless of their veracity because cultures are created (gradually over time anyway) and die out. Cultures are converted, cultures are exterminated, and cultures have revolutions/golden ages/etc. that drastically alter their ways of life. It's not rooted in religion or the 'truth' of their beliefs.

I like how SpecSlayer, like most atheists, automatically defects to Christianity being the only major religion that contests the "beliefs" of atheism. I am a Christian myself, however, other religions all have disagreements with atheism as a concept. just call me admin

Zoroastrianism, the Norse pantheon, Native American spiritualism, etc. have all been replaced by another religion (Islam and Christianity in particular) because of the reasons I listed. Who knows, we could wake up tomorrow in Ragnarok and die and be reincarnated as our spirit animal. It's irrelevant that the religions are no longer practiced if you're trying to determine if they are 'real' or not.

Science will never disprove Christianity-- it's not a science book, but it is scientifically accurate. There's a lot of good science contained therein that was written about well before we acquired modern scientific knowledge of these subjects.
