For those who haven't heard about this: the USA women's hockey team's players are threatening to pull out of this year's world championship (hosted by the USA, no less) because of "HURRRRR MUH EQUAL PAY" and are trying to basically make USA Hockey fork over some money
USA Hockey apparently tried to get elite high school players to play in the tournament instead so they wouldn't have to pay at all.
The high school girls refused. |

tbf if they want equal pay they should convince people to show up to their games |

And it doesn't help that women's hockey rules are basically just watered-down hockey and that women are unfortunately not able to perform at the same level in peak physical condition as men.
Imagine how awesome the talent pool for basically every sport would be if they were. |

"HURRRRR MUH EQUAL PAY"
is this because of the false wage gap |
Isn't the championship in my home state of the beautiful Michigan and USA boycotted? |
Let USA men's hockey scrimmage USA women's hockey and we'll see how equal they are |

maybe they should be good enough to play in the NHL and they'd make more money because they are a female |
even though I agree there is a huge gap between men's and women's sport the women are severely underpaid |

Maybe we can get enough ############ to join oh wait their outlawed in this country LOLXD |

This is kind of stupid tbh, because they are saying they are only playing for the money by doing this, and not for love of the game... |

I have an idea.
The highest professional level a female hockey player has ever gotten to in a men's competition is the Finnish 2nd tier. (Hayley Wickenheiser, basically the female Gretzky, performed below-average in that particular level. Worth noting that she was originally given the contract when the team was a 3rd tier team, and she only managed to get (ruof backwards, this filter can go die) points in 12 games there before the team was promoted to a tier where she scored zero in 10. Noora Räty is also currently a third-string goalie in the same 2nd tier.)
Therefore the women should at the very most be paid the equivalent of a Finnish 2nd tier contract if they wish to be paid for hockey. The average salary there in 2014 was the equivalent of 12,678 US dollars, and the female players who've played in it have definitely not reached "average" status. |

I still think that they should be at least paid enough to live off of hockey. |

I didn't even mention the money that some of these players might be getting from ############# |

really? 𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑚𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 is filtered? lmao |

It's not like the USA ever sends their top team to the men's world championship anyway. |
because they're always in the playoffs
this would be no nhl player going at all |
USA never brings their top team out of those who missed the playoffs either.
We've seen several college kids and euro-leaguers on team USA over the past few years. |
and ## #### ##### they're gonna have to recruit high school kids if it happens like other womens players turning down playing |
doubt they'll have to go that low for the men's team
you could make a somewhat decent usa roster out of euro-league players |
what if they join in on the action |
