Knight is using chainmail, helmet, bit of steelplate on the sides, and a longsword.
Samurai using their armor from the 1300s, with iron and leather plates, with a helmet and katana.
Of course, the better fighter rather than the one with better equipment is going to win, but personally I believe the Knight will win. The warfare culture in Japan was different compared in Europe. Since Japan the katana was built around being a great slicer, and because Japanese armor has stayed relatively the same over time (them being light armored, with the few notable exceptions of course), it made sense for them to stick with that kind of weapon because it worked. And Japan being an island, it was hard for the Japanese to get exceptionally good steel. So they had to make do with what they had, and actually did quite well.
Europe, on the other hand, was constantly evolving and playing cat and mouse with their arms and armor. This doesn't necessarily make them better than Japan, just different. Both cultures adopted their arms and armor to the style of warfare. But since Europe started experimenting more with different armors and weapons, and the style of the way they made their swords, I'd have to go with the Knight. What do you guys think? |
