My idea is, if a thread has been circulating around the front pages for, let's say, a year, it could be locked because it keeps getting necrobumped.

How can something be necrobumped if it's constantly circulating the top of a sub forum? If a thread is staying high up that long, it's clearly something people are interested in and should just stay open.

How about 24 hours?

Actually scrap this idea, instead of locking them, make them 404 after 24 hours, like fourchan (All threads 404 on there eventually) Obama chuckled. "You mean the Chaos Emeralds?"

Do you seriously think locking a thread just because it exists for 24 hours is a good idea?
