this is actually correct, byzantine empire was the roman empire. the term "byzantine" wasn't coined until the 1800s, 350 years after constantinople was taken however byzantium at the time was not even close to its full power in terms of land, manpower, resources, internal unity, etc. byzantium was stuck right between a re-emerged west, the entirety of the arabian east, and had their own problems of internal strife. in the last battle where byzantium could actually muster a real force against an enemy, they only had 4,000 men (with the majority being from constantinople alone) we all know you're trying to equate turkey to the ottoman empire, so the previous statement can be equally noted as "austria conquered the roman empire" because of the visigoths lead by alaric. nobody's denying that the ottomans conquered a hell of a lot of land from several different people, but if you think turkey is equally capable you're dumb

besides justinian reconquered practically every single major province that west rome had and held it for a few centuries, so at that time there was no visual difference between "old rome" and the "new rome"

"So my post is historically accurate." completely, given that you dont try to equate the ottoman empire to modern day turkey
Exarius
#223556426Saturday, August 12, 2017 5:49 PM GMT

Byzantine* (Idc if you argue it was still the Romans, keep in mind that the Eastern Roman Empire didn't even hold Rome, they had their capital at Byzantium, or Constantinople.)

Let's not forget the countless amounts of time that Turkey fell to other weaker nations, or came close to.

that's true, the turks fell to unarmed armenian jenocide survivors who barely had any food in the battle of sardarapat in 1918

Keep in mind the Byzantines considered themselves to be Roman and it was their intent to re take Rome one day.
