Decals should retain their original size after being uploaded. What I'm saying is that the size of the image shouldn't be squeezed into a 420 x 420 image.
Now, how can you view big images without disorting the page? I think that decals should take the way Wikipedia does it. That means that the original image shown on the page is either scaled down (if it is too big to fit in a 420 x 420 frame) to fit, or remains as normal (if the size of the image is smaller than 420 x 420 pixels). If you click on the image, it will bring you to the image's FULL RESOLUTION location on the t#bg.roblox.com sites (replace # with site's number). It's simple enough so everyone could use it without trouble, and it won't distort the page.
You may be asking how this can benefit and be bad for ROBLOX. I've created a little section for that below.
What are the pros?
- If the image is shrunk before image mods look at it, then it would make a clearer image for the image mods to examine.
- Higher quality images could be created and uploaded.
- People who share images via decals could share those decals to others in their original quality, without it being shrunk (or grown) and resized to be square.
What are the cons?
- It will require more space on ROBLOX's servers and (if I'm right) require more bandwidth. If ROBLOX is willing to cope with this, then this idea could come to fruition.
Anyways, discuss your thoughts on this idea. I want to see what you can contribute to it.
