Now, I know Avatar has been out of theaters for a while (side note: it will be re-released this summer with 10 minutes of extra footage) but I've re-read some older post on this, and many other forum sites. and decided to point out my opinion of the meaning of the film. So, people have been saying the film was unoriginal, predictable, and basicly just like Pocohantas, Dances with wolves, The Last Samurai, and Ferngully with a diffrent theme. To some degree, I agree with you. It was very simillar to those stories but James Cameron didn't create the movie for entertainment purposes soley. If you realized the REAL concept of the film was to show what humanity has done to mother nature, with idustrialzation, and other neglect for its Earth. As the superior race on the planet I belive that we should look after mother nature, and not cast it aside. Now for humanities neglect of Earth' many speces are extinct, forest land forever lost and a peremenant scar will be left on the Earth IF we don't act fast. Thats what I see the movie teches me. I've found a couple videos of JC explaining the true meaning of Avatar in a interview. I want you to watch them and post your opinion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dsk492gyEak (Part 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J09jg8GZLps&feature=channel(Part 2)

Avatar was really...dull in Comparison to TS3 and a few others. It didn't deserve all of that praise.

it's pretty much the meaning that was done in most of those other movies, and one we saw from a thousand miles away. You make it sound like this meaning is something new that nobody has done before

The reason I liked avatar was the good special effects, the imagination, and the final battle

Yes that was what got it high ratings most likley, But thats why i started this thread, because the meassage is important and the reason JC made the movie in the first place.

I felt that when you first watched Avatar your like, OMG thats the best movie ever. But before it came out, thousands of other films were just as popular as Avatar minus the whole, 15 years it took to make and the Billions they spent sitting around for 15 years so the tech could come along.

Actually, Avatar is a warning message to kids that they shouldn't play too much MMORPGs. In the movie, Jake Sully joins one (getting an Avatar), makes lots of noob mistakes at first (getting lost in the jungle) before straightening up and joining a guild (the Na'vi). He starts to drift away from his IRL friends (Quaritch) and doesn't eat properly or maintain his personal hygien. Eventually he leaves the real world completely (his consciousness transferred to his Avatar).

The thing is that the Humans were mining the Unobtanium because they needed to., and only partially because they wanted to. No one ever seems to take into account that fact. I c wat u did thar, Grakul.

It's practically Ferngully with a sci-fi twist....I mean seriously. All it is is a "OH NOES TEH NATUR IZ TEH DYING!!!" Anyone else that disagrees is just flat out wrong.

Awkrin, did you even take read the article or did you just rerad the title and make pre-assumptions. The movie isn't about anti-war / anti-military, it's really more about how most major corporations would sacrafice something very important (in this case nature) for nothing more than profit. And Max I'm not saying the plot and mabey even the message are diffrent, regardless I doubt you've even seen Ferngully. Anyway you can't act like their a bunch of crazy people when they say ""OH NOES TEH NATUR IZ TEH DYING!!!"" or however you would like to imagine them. Becuase it's happening and pretty soon, it will be too late.

@ Zues Yes, I've seen it. A lot actually. I used to watch it when I was a kid. I wasn't being entirely serious in that post (darn it internet and your anti-sarcasmness!) but the pretty much had the same overall vibe. They had a "Green" feeling to them. And yes, I'm aware of the world and its current situation. I actually DO care about the future of our world. It's just that movies that revolve around this type of message are usually obvious. The only thing that I've seen with a subtle "save the Earth" message was the Sonic SATam cartoon way back in the day.
