"oh god, survivors, finall-ergh... grah...AAAAAAAAAAAA"
I was thinking more of ripping Psycho quotes from Borderlands, as some of them could really tie in well to this whole "Driven by insanity/hunger" concept.
Such as the quote
"WHATS THE MATTER, BOY? Gonna scream before we cook ya'?!"
Could be used to imply that since the Psychos in my game haven't eaten for so long, they're driven to cannibalism.
Or a war cry of
"Strip the flesh! Salt the wound!"
Really paints a mental picture.
Your panic would spike up twice as high if you were unarmed, than it would if you have a way to defend yourself against them. (Shovel, Hammer, etc.) |

Have you been in that new desd space game? You should add some music or something like from "The catacombs"Theres good creepy music there. Also, i think it would be better without anything like zombies. stuff like skelatons falling from air vents (Trieng to escape?) Could fall infront of you. Also, a good idea would be your mind gui, like some words at the top of the screen. This could work like, when the skelaton drops on you, the gui says: "WOAH! Looks like he was trieng to escape" That would be cool :D |

I meant to say: "Dead space" Not desd space. >_<
Otherwise, If this game is HALF As good as you say, it will make it to the front page.
And beyond. |

"stuff like skelatons falling from air vents (Trieng to escape?) Could fall infront of you."
At first, I thought "That wouldn't make any sense, wouldn't a decaying body fit more?"
But then it it hit me. What if the psycho's ate all the flesh off? |

--SPOILERS--
Finishing the game would basically tell you this story over time, revealing more about your life as you progress:
Story from early in the game:
You were one of few survivors in an evacuation party, after a deadly snowstorm. You fell into a deep sleep from the cold, as others thought you were dead, they went on without you. (Jerks)
Story from early-mid of the game:
Before the evactuation, you were on a tour of a town by a sea, and you became seperated from your group. (You find out that your tour guide was the one that hung himself in the generator room) Your group was touring a city block, but the snow blinded you, sending you to seek help. (This is where the evac party finds you and you join them)
Story from mid of the game:
Your family (You know this from a photo you find in one of the journal pages) sends you on a vacation because they belive you've been working too hard. They know of the snow danger, but they refuse to tell you because they do not consider it a priority.
When you finally realize whats going on, towards the end of the game:
You decide to escape the mall, rather than just exploring it. Finding the security room and breaking the frozen lock off of it, you find from the mall blueprints that theres a heating duct that leads underground and out, into a heating plant.
At the end of the game:
After a heavy fight sequence with a ton of psychos, you escape the mall and emerge into the heating facility, which is fully operational. You realize that upon exiting the heat facility, that everything surrounding the city and state has been iced over aswell, and your panic meter shoots through the roof, and so the screen fades to black.
(What an awful ending, I know. I'm a sadist. :P) |

I was planning to make a sequence where you first enter a storage facility, and theres blood EVERYWHERE. Your character walks through to the center of the room, and several shadows appear from the rafts above. This is where you first encounter a psycho. |

Imagine your heart jumping at the sight of a bloodthirsty psycho jumping out at you.
I might take the concept of Borderlands, where they wear the skull of the enemies they've killed.
More menacing. |

I figure like you said earlier, the amount of panic from it will vary whether you have a weapon or not? |

"I figure like you said earlier, the amount of panic from it will vary whether you have a weapon or not?"
Yeah.
I was also thinking of a "horror" scene, where the camera pans to show a survivor walking through a freezer, with glass on both sides, and she (Always more heart-wrenching with a girl) stops and stares at a body behind the glass.
She stares for about 5 seconds, than resumes walking away, and she hears a *Thump*. She turns and sees the body pressed against the glass, attempting to claw its way through the glass towards her.
She backs against the opposite wall, turns and sees 5 of the same type bodies following the first one's actions.
She turns to run, hears glass break, and the bodies follow her to the dead end of the room, where they pin her down and take turns mauling her. |

@222:
Random horror scenes ftw.
It would be fun to add some "minigames" to some of the horror scenes, like in the grudge.
Like say, you see about 4-5 psycho's eating a body, their not paying attention, and you have to do something (yeah, I couldn't even be bothered to think of what to do) to sneak by them. |

You could go back to a kitchen in the mall, pick up a frozen steak, and throw it in their general direction. If psychos are going to eat flesh, they're going to eat steak raw. |

Reminds me of some flash game I played recently since I was bored.
There was a meat shop where you could buy a steak and toss it out into a crowd of zombies if their getting too close. |

You could add bugs that when they touch you they drain 0.5 HP. |

Get rid of enemys.
I once read in game informer about how if there were no enemys in a game the player would eventuly become "insane" |

Do you want to solve puzzles like some Scooby-Doo game or solve puzzles while fighting enemies like Legend of Zelda or Prince of Persia? |

My point is if you add less enemys the players will start just wanting to encounter something. |

I'm not making this a Resident Evil game with puzzles.
There will be few enough enemies so that the player is shocked when they come, but enough so the player will have something to do.
I want to make the psychos incredibly tough to kill, so when players see that "Horror freezer" scene, they're basically like "Oh, crap! I'm gonna have to FIGHT all those!" |

jmorianJoin Date: 2009-05-25 Post Count: 6036 |
And add few areas with tons of enemys.
I mean you don't want it to be to hmmm whats the word?
Have you ever played a game and the creator flooded it with zombies are other?
Have you ever played a game were you wonder around no enemys there like lets say metroid you start to just go insane when things arent encountered don't add floods of enemys but add a few and swarms in some areas it loses the affect becuase then you start to know somethings going to pop up. |
